ISNI (ISO 27729) is the certified global standard number for identifying contributors to creative works and those active in their distribution.

The Bibliothèque nationale de France is an ISNI registration agency. It also contributes to the ISSN Register. In November 2014, some tests were conducted to integrate BnF ISNIs in the ISSN database for a better identification of the issuing bodies of continuing resources. It shall be a regular practice from January 2015 on. This practice shall be extended to other ISSN centres which already make use of ISNIs.

The ISSN network is particularly interested in enlarging the coverage of ISNI to include publishers and imprints.
