Summary Report–Evolution of Open Access Policies and Availability, 1996-2013

This report, prepared for the European Commission, examines the current state of the art of OA strategies to peer-review publications (Part I), followed by a state-of-the-art analysis of OA strategies to scientific data (Part II). A third part of the study performs an assessment of the proportion and the number of OA papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Issues and terms: archived or preserved?

The Keepers Registry acts as a global monitor on the archiving arrangements for electronic journals. It was developed by EDINA, the national data service centre at the University of Edinburgh, and the ISSN International Centre in Paris.

IFLA takes Lyon Declaration to the UN

Europeana Newspapers: searching digitized historical newspapers from 23 European countries

Europeana Newspapers offers free, open source tools which individual libraries can use to assess refinement quality and metadata standards in relation to their own digital newspaper collections. A dedicated browser with faceted search and full text functionalities has proven popular with researchers selected as a primary target group.

Usus: a collaborative initiative between publishers and librarians to improve electronic resource usage statistics

Usus, a new community-led forum for libraries, consortia, publishers and vendors was established in 2014 in order to provide a gathering place for all of these groups to share and discuss usage statistics issues, developments and solutions.

Europe’s OpenAIRE2020 started – COAR involved to strengthen international collaboration

The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) has announced its participation in OpenAIRE2020, a funded project to develop and maintain the infrastructure to support the European Commission OA policy. This participation aims to work towards international alignment of repository networks, a key priority for COAR.
